Ridgid JobMax vs. Dedicated Cordless Tools Review

May 20, 2010 Stuart Discuss

ToolSnob’s Doug Mahoney wrote a thorough review on Ridgid’s JobMax tool system over at PopMech. He compared the performance of the various tool heads against dedicated compact cordless tools, and concluded that while not perfect the JobMax held up fairly well. You can check out the full comparative review at PopMech. Browse or Buy Ridgid […]

Woodpeckers/Pinnacle Drill Press Table – $90

May 20, 2010 Stuart 1 Comment

Over at Woodcraft, this Pinnacle (Woodpeckers) drill press table is on sale for $90, and since it’s over $25, it ships for free. The 16″ x 23″ x 1″ table is made from MDF with a “Microdot” laminate, and includes laser-engraved double T slot fences. What I like most about this drill press table is that […]

Totally Awesome Craftsman Tool Music Video

May 19, 2010 Stuart 6 Comments

Those crazy guys at the Craftsman Labs have taken their tool torture to a whole new level. With the help of musician/composer/ producer Kutiman, they created the following music video. Every sound you hear was created with Craftsman tools. There was definitely a lot of creativity involved – some tools were banged together (wrench xylophone) and […]

Rockwell’s New 12-Volt H3 Rotary Hammer Drill

May 19, 2010 Stuart 2 Comments

Rockwell’s new 12-volt H3 is a cordless rotary hammer drill with an SDS Plus quick chuck. Somehow, Rockwell managed to pack quite a bit of power into a compact and lightweight tool. The drill’s 3-in-1 quick change chuck can be used to equip the tool as a rotary hammer drill, conventional 3-jaw drill, or power screwdriver.

All Craftsman Sockets & Wrenches Are Proudly Made In…

May 18, 2010 Stuart 38 Comments

I’ve had Craftsman’s 2008 Holiday Tool Preview catalog on my desk for a few months now, but have not quite found the right time to talk about it. Actually, I don’t think that there will ever be a good time to talk about it – it’s not exactly a simple or straightforward issue. The thing […]

Gearwrench 4″ Screwdriver Price Mistake

May 18, 2010 Stuart 4 Comments

While not as amusing as the $100 billion Estwing Fireside Friend Splitting Tool error, I spotted this 4″ Gearwrench screwdriver selling for nearly $100. But wait, that’s at an 82% discount from the list price of $532.50! And there are only four left!! Better hurry! Oh, Amazon… Gearwrench 80007 4″ Phillips Screwdriver via Amazon

Iron Man’s Favorite Brand of Pipe Wrench is…

May 17, 2010 Stuart 1 Comment

In Iron Man 2, there is a scene where Tony Stark wields a rather large pipe wrench to turn a valve. If you’ve watched the movie, did you catch the tool’s brand? It was a Ridgid branded aluminum pipe wrench.

Leatherman Style & Style CS Now Available

May 17, 2010 Stuart 1 Comment

Leatherman’s new keychain-sized multi-tools, the Style & Style CS are now on sale on Amazon and many other retailers. It doesn’t look like they’re actually in stock anywhere, which means that there must have been a massive number of preorders. I ordered a Style CS, and a Style in black because the plain-finish Style does not […]

AS Machinery & Materials Co. (ASMC) – Fasteners Galore!

May 17, 2010 Stuart Discuss

AS Machinery & Materials Co. (ASMC) has received an influx of new inventory of thousands of pounds and millions of fasteners. Alex’s prices are fairly competetive, and he has developed a rock-solid reputation amongst his customers. You can check out a list of ASMC’s inventory here, and be sure to check out Alex’s announcement on the GarageJournal forum for ordering […]

Ryobi Auto Hammer $20 at Home Depot

May 17, 2010 Stuart 8 Comments

Home Depot is having a “Spring Cyber Monday” online-only sale today. As part of their sale, Home Depot is selling Ryobi’s Auto Hammer for an obscenely low $20. We reviewed the Auto Hammer a few months ago, and had some mixed feelings about. At $20 (plus shipping), the Auto Hammer now costs less than a […]

May 14, 2010 Stuart 22 Comments

Additional details and specifications about the Dremel Tri 6800 multi-purpose spiral saw we first mentioned last month have started to surface. If our own feelings are any indication, the Trio’s September 2010 release will be highly anticipated.

Porter Cable 18V Li-Ion Cordless Drill Review

May 14, 2010 Stuart 20 Comments

A few weeks ago, we received a Porter Cable 18V Li-ion cordless combo set to review. Since then, we have been putting the tools through a rigorous review process, starting with the cordless drill. Seeing as how the drill will be many users’ most frequently used tool, we spent quite a bit of time evaluating its […]

Dewalt Pilot Point Drill Bits – a ToolGuyd Favorite

May 13, 2010 Stuart 21 Comments

I am sometimes asked to recommend general purpose drill bits that can be purchased locally. Although this condition rules out many of the great brands available at online industrial suppliers, there are still a few decent options out there. By far, my favorite locally-sourced drill bits are Dewalt’s Pilot Point drill bits.

Update About Home Depot Patent Infringement Suit

May 13, 2010 Stuart 5 Comments

Yesterday we mentioned a judgement against Home Depot for copying a patented saw design that they refused to pay the inventor for. I searched for additional information about this online, but without pulling the court documents, we have no choice but to rely on secondary sources. After scouring the web a bit, a few additional […]
