OH, so that’s why the Dewalt 20V Max cordless portable power station is on sale for so low right now. It’s $210 to $221 on Amazon, depending on whether you want free shipping via Prime or a 3rd party seller.
Someone mentioned a new model, but I hadn’t seen it before digging deeper earlier today.

I caught sight of the new Dewalt portable power station over at their Facebook page.
There’s the addition of a top handle. And… that’s all I know right now.
I’ve reached out to my Dewalt contact and am waiting to hear back. But since I’ve been posting about the deal pricing on the DCB1800B bare tool, I figured a quick post about the new model was warranted.
The Dewalt Portable Power Station, reviewed here, is fantastic. There are some downsides, such as its size, weight, and charging time, but it’s quite impressive for being the first of its kind. There’s no other 18V-class battery-powered corded tool power source out there right now, at least that I know of.
While I can definitely see the appeal of a top handle – or is that a tall rear handle? – I don’t think I’d be disappointed if I bought one of the first-generation models today. Is the current low pricing on that model to clear them out? I don’t know.
There seems to be a slight speed drop, compared to powering a corded tool from a pure AC source. Ben did some great work on measuring things. I’ve been slow to check measurements on my end, and attempts to analyze the “modified sine wave” out signal have proven to be difficult, even with proper equipment on loan.

Back to the point – there’s a new Dewalt Portable Power Station coming. I don’t have any other details other than the image you see above, but would assume that everything else remains the same. The output power appears he same, and I don’t think that Dewalt would have made any changes to the internals without obvious visual changes on the outside.
To me, it looks like the new handle is a modification of the roll cage.
I hate to say it, without first having a chance to look at the new model in person, but I think I would prefer the current/original DCB1800B. There are times when I place the power station on its side, and it looks like the new top/rear handle would prevent this.
If you already bought one of these, or plan to buy one at the current super-low pricing, you could always make your own improvised top handle that secures to the tops of the side handles.

Note: I’m still waiting for confirmation from Dewalt. But since this was on their social media channel, I’m assuming it’s a real product that’s on the way.

I don’t get it. The original already has huge handles and weights enough, I’d rather not have the new handle. The only enhancements I would like are smaller/lighter size, auto charger/inverter switching.
Brien
Maybe this one is 20 amp. Higher wattage?
Stuart
Sticker on the product in the image says 15A and 1800W nominal, 3600W peak.
Raoul
Looks like the just added a handle to the original. I wonder if you can add it to the original as an accessory (if one needed it). Looks easier to carry one handed.
alex
There is a new fast 4 bays charger as well that has the same look as the power station but it’s just a regular charger. It works with 12v, 20v and 60v batteries.
Can’t wait to see if there is something different with this new power station beside the handle.

DeWalt just put a picture of this up on their Instagram https://instagram.fyto1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/vp/a26bc77f15141033c15a9e33d5beef5e/5B039104/t51.2885-15/e35/26299451_545898662433194_592667884409323520_n.jpg the model number appears to be DCB104 and according to the message “It charges 4 DEWALT 4.0 Ah batteries simulanteously in 40 minutes.”

Looking at the picture a bit more closely, the dimensions look more like TSTAK than ToughSystem. I also noticed in the UK they are offering a TSTAK radio charger (DWST1-81079) with bluetooth control (through mobile app) and charging of FlexVolt batteries. Is this a sign of renewed interest in TSTAK?
Roger
I would have kicked myself IF they gave it the ability to mount tough boxes on top of the rails. But I now see that I can apply a strap across to make it a shoulder sling.
However the handle design now seems to allow it to potentially have accordion or canvas dust hood/cover.

I’m just going to go off this same line of thinking, because I agree wholeheartedly, but redirect a little.
listen, I love DeWALT, but why are they working on these pointless tweaks to the power system and air compressors, and not working on TSTAK or Tough System rails for them instead of new handles? It just makes sense to have these bigger items lock into the cart systems. I think the Marketing Department is on Drugs again.
The Power Station and the FlexVOLT Air Compressors (you know they’ve got to expand that line eventually anyways. Stoner Marketing or not, the FlexVOLT Air Compressors are bound to come in bigger sizes eventually.) should get adapters, or Tough System rail and TSTAK Locks integrated into those roll cages they all have. If they play their cards right, it could lead to people buying entire Tough System or TSTAK Rolling Carts solely to build Air Compressor and Power Station carts for on-site use, to go with separate cart systems to carry tools and supplies. Which means more sales as a whole.
I mean… WHY?? Why a totally unnecessary change like this?

I agree, having clips for (top mount only) stacking while not having the side mounts for racking, seems like a real oversight. There are other items like the tote box and radio which when stacked can only go on top, but they can be tracked on the bigger trolley, wall mounts or van mounts. I am heavily invested in ToughSystem with 5 nearly full wall racks and would love to get either the power station or better still a multi charger, but not if I can’t rack it.
pete
I’m not a dewalt guy but in my opinion they should have made it so it could have interlocked to the dewalt tough boxes. ALONG with the air compressor, the vacuum, and a flat plate so you can mount your own tool to the top of the stack such as a miter saw.
On my ridgid boxes i really want to take one of the milk crate style boxes and cut the sides off the make a flat plate that attaches to the stack to mount my 7-1/4 chop saw but…. most of my wood working is hobbyist and favors so it’s not really necessary for me so cutting a $20 box would feel terrible but at the same time once it was cut i know i would love it…… maybe next project i’ll just suck it up and cut it.

Thank You. Glad you found this and shared.
Chris
I’d love to see one of these from makita
Austin
I would think that some of the internals would be updated. I mean why clear out the old models if the only difference is a top handle. I didn’t see them clearing out all the flexvolt saws without the hook to make room do the new one with only one difference
Jason S
My guess Is it fast charges now as well.
Mr. Creek
Disappointing to say the least. I hope that bar pivots to the front to provide a locking physical barrier in front of the batteries, a serious jobsite design over sight. Also, was hoping that generation 2 would be designed to accept tough sytem on top.
JC
As I suspected and mentioned in my comment on your daily deal post. A “new”version of this tool. I think I will buy the gen 1 as well as wait for a bigger cordless compressor that runs on 2 batts and can give me 2.0+ scfm. Then we’ll be talking.
Blythe
The world of concrete instagram posts show a 4 bay rapid charger that clips to the tough system box, so I’m going to speculate that this may do the same
Joe
This is just a teaser photo, that’s not the new power station
MC
FYI, CPO has the Power Station on eBay right now for $194 shipped….
Eric
$194 did it for me.
I really doubt I would use this for sensitive electronics. I already have a true sign wave UPS for indoor electronics. I plan to essentially use this to make my table saw and router cordless, provide AC when needed to shed that does not have it, and provide an extra circuit in the basement shop for the rare times I am tripping breakers.
MC
It looks like they took the handle from the Toughcart and stuck it on the power station…

I got one of these at HD last month with a coupon the chatger and 4 batteries was just under 360$ plus tax. Used it to run refridgerator recently during a blackout.
Does anyone know if it can charge multiple 60 volt batteries simultaneosly and if two 60 volt batteries are on charger will that still operate the inverter? What would happen if there were more thsn two 60volt batteries connected and the power out switch was turned on?
Stuart
It is a simultaneous charger, able to charge 1-4 batteries concurrently.
You need 4 batteries to power anything, with any combination of 20V Max and FlexVolt batteries. Compact batteries are not recommended.
The FlexVolt batteries are operated in 20V Max with the portable power station.
