I was price-checking a couple of Dewalt tool boxes today when I found that Amazon has new coupon discounts on this and a couple of other models.
This tool box and organizer is part of the Dewalt Tstak system, meaning it can be used by itself or stacked and latched together with others from the same line.
At the time of this posting, the price is $27, and Amazon lets you click a coupon to apply a $4.05 discount at checkout, bringing the price down to just under $23.

I liked this Dewalt tool box when I tested it a long time ago, and I continue to consider it a great value, whether used standalone or stacked with others.

You can fit a bunch of tools in its main compartment.

And smaller stuff – such as parts or accessories, or even some narrow tools – in the top compartment.
It’s kind of like a tool box and organizer in one. The extra-long top handle was also convenient and comfortable.

There’s also a side handle, so you can carry it like a briefcase.

Got bigger and bulkier tools to store? They have an extra-deep version with the same features and “attic” style organizer compartment.

I also like the Dewalt compact Tstak tool box, and Amazon gave this one a coupon discount offer as well, with the price dropped below $20 at checkout.
Amazon has coupon offers on some of the other Dewalt Tstak tool boxes as well. Actually, it looks like all of the hard-style tool boxes are on sale, plus the drawer tool boxes, and also the rolling tool box and 4-wheel cart.
The terms and conditions says that the coupons will expire more than 12 years from now, which can’t be right.

Dewalt announced to distributors a few months ago they were phasing out Amazon as a partner
Stuart
I haven’t heard anything about that, and very highly doubt it. Can you point us to the source or supporting evidence?
Jason
I’ll send some more information when I can, but they did quietly remove Amazon from their “where to buy” section.
https://www.dewalt.com/find-retailer
Still shows up on various products when you click where to buy but that’s powered by Price Spider showing where it’s in stock.
My guess being a 200M chunk of the business, they came to the same conclusion MKE did that it wasn’t worth it to tick off all the rest of distribution but will take some time for things to phase out.
I could be way off base here, but just relaying the information that was relayed to me.
Stuart
Not having Amazon on the retailer list could just be a concession to their online dealers.
I wrote to Dewalt and will see what they say.
I regularly hear from a bunch of independent online retailers who will occasionally inform me about big changes. So far no one said anything about Amazon.

At ~4pm ET today, Dewalt corporate:

I just picked up another one of these long handled boxes to reorganize my electrical kit – they are solidly built and hold a lot. TSTAK remains my tool box of choice. They are light, easy enough to stack together and cheap! Plus the utility cart dolly remains my favorite way to move around a stack. I hope with the (unfortunate) lackluster performance of the Toughsystem DXL they will turn their attention back to the TSTAK line. We could use some taller drawers, a utlity worktop, and a front-fold crate.
Mopar
The trolly cart really looks great for my needs, but I just haven’t been able to talk myself into it for the cost. The handles on the regular roller boxes (Toughsystem or Tstak) don’t fit under the tonneau cover of my truck.
cyberbuffalo
I like it because it moves more like a rubbermade cart than it does a 2 wheel dolly, which makes moving it from place to place a breeze. It’s almost always $129 US but I found it recently at home depot for 135 with a large tstak box and finally bit. Was absolutely worth it.

When I started in construction I bought a handful of TStak boxes. I’ve since upgraded to the Tough System, but I can’t get rid of the old TStaks. They’re still a great value and they punch way above their weight class in terms of durability. I would love to see more pieces added.

Bought a couple/variety of 7ea total using the links. yay!
Been watching the 3/4″ Impact driver DCF964. They added the rubber boot but price parked. So far at $432.64 with 5Ah, bag, charger. Tool only DCF964B $275ish. Might have to bite on the $432 but was hoping for a $350 kit. /goodnight

This sort of deal just emphasizes that Amazon really needs a better hierarchy for product listings, and an elimination of duplicate listings:
Contrast:

That second one is from a 3rd party, not Amazon.

So the company selling that second listing is in India. Perhaps if we lived in India it would appear to be a better deal?
William Adams
Yes, but the product listing is on Amazon.
Rather than being allowed to make the new listing, they should be required to list it under the existing product ASIN — if it’s the same product, then the ASIN should be the same, just the specific items/prices/sources should be tracked separately (and Amazon can do this in their existing database structure, they just don’t always bother to).
Stuart
Amazon has also increased their number of international listings.
For example, these pliers are sold and shipped from Amazon Japan – https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0989TRMPR?tag=toolguyd-20 .
You can also see from the stock count that it’s just the Amazon Japan listing with hugely discounted international shipping baked in.
https://www.amazon.co.jp/-/en/Fujiya-6050-200BG-Cable-Pliers-inches/dp/B0989TRMPR/?tag=toolguyd-22
William Adams
Which again, is a dis-service to the customer — if it’s the same item, it should use the same ASIN (if need be, distinguishing the packaging as they do for “Frustration Free”).
William
I would love for dewalt to continue to build-out their Tstak line. I think it’s the best value of any major modular box system on the market.
Michael Morton
I have longed espoused the high value of the Tstak storage system and the virtue of drawers as organizers here on Tool Guyd. They’re not nearly as robust as other systems, yet they’ve been faithfully storing my carpentry tools for well over a decade. With the drawers and the cart it’s super easy to mobilize and not have to unstack and restack to get at tools. I use the foam inserts to keep power tools in place. They also have a coupon.

Thank you, Stuart for keeping us informed of the great deals and so much more!
Stuart
I have mixed feelings about Tstak as a system, but the individual tool boxes are excellent. Not interested in modular tool boxes and just need a bunch of independent boxes? The quality is good and there are few compromises for the sake of stacking or connectivity. And the prices are excellent especially when retailers knock a few dollars off.
Nick
This is exactly what I’ve done. I’ve got a bunch of the TStak boxes, and especially drawers, scattered around my various hobby areas because they’re just a good value.
Mopar
Yea, I don’t generally stack the Tstak boxes either. You used to be able to catch the compact Tstak tool boxs on sale for $15 or less, and every time they went on sale I would buy one or 2. I use them for all sorts of things. I have one with a battery charger and an assortment of tool batteries. That’s usually plenty to get me through whatever I am working on that day. Others are set up with small tools for a specific job. One for plumbing, one for flooring, one for tools used in tapping maple trees, etc.
alex
By the way, if you need some shelves to store your tstak and don’t have time to build custom cabinets, the boxes fit perfectly inside a 50×35 cm Ikea PAX. Another reason to loves these boxes 🙂
William Adams
Is that size available in the U.S.?
I’m not finding it when looking….
Stuart
50cm is 19.68″ which likely corresponds to the 19-5/8″ size. 35cm is 13.78″, which likely corresponds to the 13-3/4″ depth. They have that size in 79-1/8″ and 92-7/8″ heights. On Ikea’s website the 22-7/8″ depth comes up first in the search results for Pax, but you can see the 13-3/4″ depth when you select from the size options. IKEA USA example link.
alex
Yup Stuart is right.

Home Owner that also scored that Lowes deal on DeWalt tools in the spring, so I needed a place to safely store all the new tools. As I was figuring out what I should do that TSC deal on the TStak Mobile stacks (TStak Mobile, small Yellow box (TStak i) and TStak Organizer (TStak v)) happened this spring, so I purchased three setups. Recently got some of the small black boxes (TStak ii) from amazon to complement that TSC set up with the coupon for less than $20ea.
Very happy with the quality for my needs since they’ll be stored in the basement for use around the house or on short adventures. Have on order the deep Yellow box (TStak vii) to build out my router / jigsaw box. Added some 5mm EPDM rubber gasket for some dust/weather protection to the black and yellow lids. I had read that the clear lids needed a thicker diameter gasket. Got some of the Kaizen inserts arriving today to build out the boxes.
I do have concerns about the long term quality of the black plastic covers on the attics of the yellow covers. I think that’s the weakest link. I do notice the overall plastic thickness is less than the individual boxes that my older DeWalt corded tools came with (Sawzall, Palm Sander).
I do hope Stanley continues the TStak/Versastack product line since it’s a great choice for home owners / DIYers that don’t need Construction Site toughness.
Travis
Does this work with the original Tstaks? Mine are over 10 years old.
Stuart
I believe so. I can’t guarantee it, but I have yet to see any exceptions.
Vards Uzvards
Absolutely! In fact, I bought the TSTAK I box (the one shown at the very top of this article) in October, 2016. It was part of the original TSTAK toolbox release.

Oh man, I just discovered that my browser has been stripping rerferral links, ie ToolGuyd’s to Amazon, etc. Doggonit!! I come here specifically to use the links so it makes the referral. I’ll fix it on my end but wish I’d found out earlier. It feels like fiding out all the plastic recycling you might have done for years ends up in the landfill instead of….well, dog.gon.int.
Stuart
Not a big deal, although I definitely appreciate the sentiment. There are a LOT of browser extensions that do this. Honey recently got into trouble for such practices.
MM
In my opinion Honey was much much worse. Simply deleting referral links could be seen as enhancing privacy, same as rejecting tracking cookies. Honey did not do that. They replaced 3rd party referral links with their own, actively taking credit for someone else’s work. That was not the action of someone seeking privacy, or seeking to avoid being part of the corporate marketing machine. That was taking credit for what someone else did. Stealing. And I’m 100% sure they logged all sorts of data while doing so.
I’m surprised Honey became as big as it did. It was an obvious scam from a mile away. The idea sounded nice and all, but how was it supposed to pay for its own development and all that advertising without something nefarious going on under the hood? Honey clearly had high expenses but where was the income to offset it? Remember the old adage: “there’s no such thing as a free lunch”
Stuart
There are many browser extensions that do similar things, as most affiliate programs credit the “last click” source. I agree that it was obvious what they were doing, and yet paid influencers hyped it up anyway. They couldn’t have all been ignorant about how these things work. There’s no reason most average customers would ever think about the inner workings of all of this.
Travis
You guys totally missed last month, tractor supply had the 3 box tstak setup for $29.99
Stuart
From what I saw, it was a price mistake (the combo is regularly ~$120) and they cancelled almost everyone’s orders. People also drove long distances just to leave stores empty-handed.
Bob
I got three of the 3 box combo from TSC for 34.99 ea.
Bill
I just purchased this Dewalt toolbox (DWST17808) and was looking for some foam inserts to further secure my tools. There are several options available on Amazon that are precut to fit this box. Does anyone have a recommendation/experience for this type of installation?
Stuart
I’d also look at Kaizen foam, either slabs that you cut to size yourself, or pre-cut. This would be my first stop: https://www.kaizensource.com/ . I haven’t ordered from them, but have been following them on social media for a while.
Bob
I just received an order from Kaizen Source from their website for the TStak cutout yesterday. They appear to fit perfectly for the TStak i (long handle short) and TStak ii (black top short box). Getting the TStak vii (long handle deep) next week hopefully it will fit that too. Got it with the two knifes with extra blades and long marker with the order. The cutouts I ordered do not fit the TStak v (gen2 Organizer), would need to do more cuts around edges to fit case. Each cutout was almost $17 each, so all in was $154 for seven with the accessories and ups ground shipping.
