One of the most annoying things about modern-day online shopping is that I’ll often get “you forgot this in your cart” and “are you still interested in this?” types of remarketing emails. Today I received an email from Acme Tools, but one that I was actually pleased to see.
The email says:

Did you notice the price on this dropped?
Would you look at that! The price of this item you were looking at just dropped. Come get it for your toolbox and save some cash in the process!
I took a look, and Acme Tools has dropped the price of Dewalt’s DCD701F2 Xtreme drill/driver kit from $99 to $79.
This kit was eligible for 10% savings recently, dropping the price to $89. $79 is even better!
- 3/8″ ratcheting chuck
- 0-425/0-1500 RPM
- 250 UWO max power
- 15 clutch settings
- LED worklight
- 5.97″ length
- Weighs 1.9 lbs
I’ve had samples of this and other new Dewalt Xtreme 12V Max cordless power tools for some time, and have really grown to like them.
Yesterday, my daughter got a small toy figure stuck inside a pop-up animal toy, and I was tasked with disassembling the toy to fix things. Taking the toy apart required me to remove 13 screws. I normally use manual screwdrivers on kids’ toys, but I had a Dewalt Xtreme cordless screwdriver already in my office, and it made short work of things and without stripping out the small screws.

If you have been curious about trying Dewalt’s newest 12V Max brushless drill, this might be a good opportunity.
If you ask me, $20 savings off a $99 drill kit is a huge price drop. I don’t think we could reasonably expect it to dip any lower.

Unfortunately, Acme Tools recently returned their free shipping limit to $199, but shipping is only a flat $6.49 on smaller orders. Thus, you’ll still save money compared to the next-best deal we recently posted about.
Personally, I would look over my wishlist or shopping list to see if there are any other small tools or accessories to add to my order to make the most of the shipping fee. Do you need any screwdriver bits or reciprocating saw blades? If I have to pay shipping fees, I look over a list of hand tools and accessories that I could use but don’t want to pay separate small-order shipping fees on.
If you have to pay shipping anyway, this might be a good opportunity to try Milwaukee’s RedLithium USB flashlights or worklights, which are currently eligible for a free USB charger kit rebate.

Stuart,
Before you buy the drill, check out Lowe’s price on the extreme drill and impact driver for $149. Price is supposed to be good until the end of April.
Stuart
$149 is the normal promo price for the combo (Acme link for reference, Lowe’s link for reference), and $99 the normal promo price for the individual tool kits, except the screwdriver kit which was recently $99.
I should clarify that I wasn’t shopping for the drill – I have a review sample in-hand at the moment. I get these emails from a lot of retailers because I do price-checking and promo/coupon price checking in the process of writing up posts. Sometimes I’m signed out, other times I forget and I’ll get a flurry of emails afterwards, triggered by everything I’ve added to my cart for promo/pricing testing.
$79 for the drill kit surprised/excited me because it’s normally $99, and the lowest I’ve seen is $89 recently with the 10% coupon.

Just bought the one Gary T mentioned at Lowe’s (last week) which includes an extra battery.
Stuart
Extra battery? This kit comes with 2 batteries, the combo kit comes with 2 batteries. I don’t see any extra bonus battery offers at the moment.

Kinda funny that ACME increased their shipping prices, when everyone else has seemingly dropped theirs due to the Coronavirus, i.e. Grizzly, Lee Valley, etc.
They lost my business just last week, when they had their Lucky Charm promotion for 15% off, but then were going to add $7 for shipping, which killed the value of the promotion. I went elsewhere.
Chris I
You know that shipping isn’t free right?
Corey Moore
Like in general lost your business, or in the instance lost that particular potential business you had in mind?
Tool junkie
The items in my cart weren’t a good deal after the shipping costs were added in.
I’ve bought lots of stuff from them, the latest being two Milwaukee radios and will continue to do so, but not for smaller, stand alone purchases, like a 6 pc Fisch bit set…
Chris I
$7 for shipping? Dude that’s cheaper than USPS’s smallest flat rate box.

Not really play around with McMaster Carr and see how little wholesale shipping costs, personally i think you have to have someway to get what I bought for free, if that means in-store pickup, really slow shipping, and if you want to upcharge for a faster delivery that’s fine, but not having some form of free shipping is not cool these days, you don’t charge me a 3 am surcharge even though keeping the store open at 9 has additional costs.
Stuart
You can’t draw comparisons like that though.
McMaster ships from closer distances and might have higher volume contracts. Their fees do tend to be reasonable, but can hurt if an order has to ship from more than one location.
Some retailers, like Amazon, pay a fraction of what it costs for me to ship anything via any service.
Shopping for something small, such as a single cordless drill kit, would cost me around $16. In that context, $7 isn’t bad.

I keep looking at these as
1) I want an extra drill/impact driver set
2) the ergonomics and weight of these are perfect for letting my kids use on projects
3) IIRC, these use can use some of the same chargers as the 20 V stuff.
I do wish they would drop the dual-tool kit commensurately.

Just clicked on the ACME link and its $99

Out of Stock! States “warehouse acquiring product. Usually Ships in 10-15 days” This seems to be the norm in my experience ordering from Acme Tools. The 2-3x’s I have ordered from them on a sale item they were out of stock and I had to wait 2+ weeks for the item/s to even ship. No thanks!
PlaneGrain
It’s tough running a business nowadays, so I usually try to remember that. They probably get some real high volume buyers, and they devour their inventory.
PlaneGrain
Sure is amazing, the number of drill/ drivers from all the manufacturers. Really overwhelming! It leaves me to believe there’s a lot of profit in them.

I went to the Dewalt sale that was posted a few minutes ago on this site. It was taken off when I returned. Prices were unbelievable. I did a google search on the web address. What a FRAUD! Why do you post bull like that?
Stuart
Looks like it sold out sometime in the late morning, resulting in the price going back up. It’s frustrating when retailers have sales with hidden expiration dates or quantity limits, but that’s not fraud. I thought this price would have held for longer, but it’s impossible to know with deals like this.
Greg
I am talking about a link to [redacted] that was deleted from your posts. It was the most recent. It is no longer there.
Stuart
Ah, got it. Sorry, I thought you were referring to the deal this post was about.
Can I ask where you saw that link? That URL/store doesn’t appear in any comments approved, spammed, or trashed, or in the forum – at least not that I can find.
Looking at that site (I redacted the URL for public safety), it’s definitely scammy/illegitimate. I/we/ToolGuyd definitely wouldn’t ever post to a retailer like that, and have cautioned about similar sites numerous times in the past.
Greg
It appeared on your site for only long enough for me to open it and go their site. After determining that it was suspicious, I returned to Tool Guyd and the post was gone. The headline was “Dewalt Tools Up To 90% off”. This post was the next post under that one.
Greg
Feel free to send me personal email.
Stuart
That sounds like it was a Google Ad – I’ll block that URL in the ad manager. I’ve seen them pop up all the time on Facebook, but haven’t seen them here yet. The hard part is that unless they’re reported (which I’ll be doing now), Google seems to automatically white-list them.
Update: There’s nothing for that URL in the ad manager. If you see it again, please take a screenshot and send it to me so I can investigate and take appropriate actions to block it/them.
Greg
That same ad is on yahoo. com right now. At least here it is.

I ‘m done buying tools for this year. The items I need, i’m Sort of waiting for an upgrade ( next generation) type tools. I do have the one time tool to pay for yet. Unless I hit the lottery.
Planegrain
The torque rating is in UWO(Units Watts Out). This rating uses the relationship between speed &torque . Dewalt uses this UWO rating. I wasn’t familiar with this rating.

Great article! And enjoyed the comment section also. Thanks.
