Yesterday, Home Depot announced their free cordless power tool event for the 2019 Holiday season. By purchasing certain kits from Milwaukee, Dewalt, Ryobi, Ridgid, or Makita you can get free power tools.
This is very similar to last years deal event where their are two tiers of free tools. In tier 1, you purchase a less expensive starter kit with a charger and two batteries and receive one free cordless power tool. In tier 2, you purchase a more expensive ($399+) tool kit and receive two free bonus power tools or accessories.
Please note that this year Ryobi doesn’t have a tier 2 deal where you can get two free power tools.
These deals are available both in store and online. To the best of our knowledge, the event is supposed to go on until 2/2/2020, but we’ve seen several different dates listed. You also run the risk of starter kits or popular free bonus tool selections running out if you wait too long, which has happened in past years.
We’ll break down the sale for each of the different brands, and since the process is similar for all the brands, we’ll only go through it once for the first brand.
If you just can’t wait to get started, here’s the sale home page
In the first tier, to get a single Milwaukee power tool for free, you have to add the model 48-59-1840P starter kit to your cart for $199. The kit comes with:
- (2) M18 XC4.0 batteries (48-11-1840)
- M18 and M12 charger (48-59-1812)
- A contractor bag
Then you can pick from the list of qualifying free cordless power tools or batteries and add it to your cart. Once the tool is added to your cart, your total will be adjusted so that the prices of the starter kit and “free” tool only adds up to $199, the price of the starter kit.
For some reason the list of tools on the deal page doesn’t include some of the tools eligible for the deal. Notably, the oscillating multi-tool and wet/dry vac don’t appear in the list of choices, but they do work in the promotion.
The second tier works a little differently, you purchase a $399 M18 Fuel cordless combo kit which includes:
- M18 Fuel Hammer Drill (2804-20)
- M18 Fuel Imapct Driver (2853-20)
- Two XC5.0 batteries
- M18 and M12 multi-volt charger
- Carrying case
But for this deal you choose the package that has the two free tools. For example if you wanted the Sawzall and circular saw as your free bonus tool choices, you’d choose the bundle that includes those two tools.
The Dewalt first tier deal works very similar to the Milwaukee one. You add the DCB205-2CK starter kit to your cart for $199. This kit comes with:
- (2) 20V Max DCB205 5.0Ah batteries
- DCB115 charger
- Soft tool bag
Again, once you add the starter kit to your cart, you can choose from the list of Dewalt tier 1 tools to add to your cart. Unlike the Milwaukee page, there doesn’t appear to be any tools missing.
To quality for the second tier with 2 free tools, you need to purchase the $399 Dewalt DCK299D1T1 combo kit. This kit includes:
- Brushlesss hammer drill (DCD996)
- Brushless impact driver (DCF887)
- FlexVolt 6.0Ah battery
- 20V Max 2.0Ah battery
- Rapid charger (DCB118)
Again for this tier you choose the package with the two free tools that you want.
This year Ryobi only has the first tier promotion — you buy a starter kit for $149 and get to choose only one free tool.
The starter kit you would have to purchase includes:
- (2) 3.0Ah Lithium+ HP batteries (P191)
- Cup-style charger (P118B)
- Soft tool bag
But wait! You might remember earlier this year for Ryobi Days, that you could purchase this kit for $99 and get a free tool. Does this hint that this deal (or even all the other deals) may get better for Black Friday? We honestly don’t know, we’ll just have to wait and see.
To qualify for the Ridgid Tier 1 deal you have to purchase this $199 18V Octane starter kit which includes:
- (2) 18V Octane 3.0Ah batteries (AC840088)
- 18V Octane charger (R86092)
- Tool bag
To qualify for the two free Ridgid tools you must purchase a $449 R9652 18V cordless power tool combo tool kit that comes with the following:
- Hammer drill (R861105)
- Impact driver (R86035)
- Circular saw (R8652)
- Reciprocating saw (R8642)
- LED worklight (R8693)
- 18V charger (R840095)
- (2) 18V 4.0Ah batteries (R840087) (not Octane)
- Assorted accessories
- Contractor bag
The $199 Makita starter kit that’s eligible for free tool bonus tool includes:
- (2) 18V LXT 4.0Ah batteries (BL1840B)
- Rapid charger (DC18RC
- Tool bag
Once again the website seems to be missing a tool that is eligible for the promotion – the LXT variable speed multi-tool.
To get two free Makita tools, you’ll need to buy this XT268T brushless drill and impact driver kit for $399. This kit includes:
- 1/2″ brushless hammer drill (XPH07Z)
- Brushless impact driver (XDT142)
- (2) 5.0Ah batteries (BL1850B)
- Rapid Optimum charger (DC18RC)
- Contractor bag
