When this quarter’s tools were revealed to me, I was excited, and then hesitant. They were sending me a Husky 46″ mobile workbench! But… I currently don’t have room for any new tool storage products, even to keep around for a short time to review. When I brought it up, it was too late to intercept the shipment, which arrived a few weeks later.
The Husky mobile workbench measures 46″ x 24.5″ – a good size – and has 9 drawers, a built-in power strip with 4 outlets and 2 USB outlets, and a 46″ x 24″ solid wood top. The casters are 5″ x 2″, with 2 swivel casters and 2 fixed, and they can support up to 1200 lbs (total). The drawers have 100 lb weight ratings, except for the deep bottom drawers, which have 200 lb load ratings.

You get 2 keys for the lock, and a full set of precut drawer liners.
This unit retails for $399-$448 seasonally, which I’d say is a very good price for what you get.
I received a call from the truck, telling me the delivery was about 30 minutes out. Uh-oh. I was expecting something else that week, and had *just enough* space for one delivery. There was no easy way for me to accommodate testing of this unit.
Just after the delivery truck pulled away, my electrician pulled up in the drive. We had an appointment for a service call to change out some devices that were too challenging for me to handle (such as a previously switched receptacle with unconnected grounds).
“Could you use this? No strings attached, but I’ll ask for your feedback.” He thought it over, and called his partner. About two hours later, “okay, we’ll give it a shot.”
They mentioned having been on the lookout for a new way to store circuit breakers and other bulky supplies. The drawers looked like they could do the job, and they were convinced enough that they were willing to give it a try.

After a dozen “thank you’s,” his partner came by and I helped them load the Husky mobile workbench into the second van.
I asked them to send me a photo if they could, once everything was setup.
A few weeks later:
They liked it so much – the storage capacity, the drawers, and the worktop, that they bought a second unit, and lined them up back to back.
That speaks volumes to me – that it worked out so well and they liked it so much that they bought another one.
Right now on Home Depot’s site, this Husky mobile workbench has 563 reviews, with a 4.7 out of 5 star average. 98% of the reviewers recommend this unit.
I’m a big fan of Husky tool storage products – from plastic hand boxes to large steel ball bearing combos – and it was a little tough to part with this unit before even unboxing it. But, I’m glad I was able to send it to a good home.
I’ll check back with the testers, to see how it holds up in time.

I have a recess in my garage that is 100″W x 36″D. An 84×30 box would be friggin’ perfect, talk about a HUGE worktop and ultra-deep storage drawers.
But I do like the Husky stuff. The price difference though is astronomical….

Also, I think the Husky is soft close drawers while the TV just have detents.
Four grand versus maybe $1500 for a Husky setup is such a huge difference if just using stationary in m garage.

I have an older Chraftsman Professional 56″ box that is 30″ deep.
The depth is fantastic and Everytime I look for additional storage the first thing I check is depth.
This box is still available from Waterloo btw.
There is one risk of the deep drawers. In my garage, if I have a car in that I’m working in with the main door closed, there isnt really enough room for the drawers to be fully extended as it’s placed on the back wall. Full extension is effectively 5″ of tool box space.

I wish I had an optional top box. Now that I’ve got one, I’d like to add storage, but they don’t seem to make a top box that I’ve found.
I do like my milwaukee mobile work bench much better.

I have this unit, bought it off the floor when it was already on sale. A good unit, I would prefer all the casters swivel that can also be leveled (if that exists) but not a deal breaker. The power cord could be better managed. I added the available metal peg board, $40 well spent. Overall for the price a good unit.

There are adjustable swivelling and locking casters available in the UK and I am sure they are available in the US. Are the existing casters fixed into the unit. It seems to be an iron clad rule of fixed casters that they are the wrong type of caster for the job in hand which always make me hesitate particularly if swapping them out is a major job.

Yes, replacement casters are available, not worth swapping them out for me. The unit has two swiveling/locking casters and two fixed.

Funny I just bought the stainless 52” model from Home Depot online. I too wasn’t ready for delivery and after inspecting it as it lay, I let it sit for longer than I should have. Fast forward a couple months and the side that was down, shows no exterior damage, but back corner edge of the cabinet is pushed on several inches. I called customer service and they offered 10%. After 2 more hours on the phones they could only up it to 25%. Return window had closed. Too bad, because I because I had planned to use it in my apartment and the pushed in edge both faces the room and doesn’t allow it to be pushed back against the wall.
It really looks great in stainless steel. The butcher block top is flawless. I love that the drawer handles are flush with the cabinet so clothing doesn’t get snagged. I think this is an important feature. Overall. this is a very nice workbench and I’m comparing it with much more expensive options.
Drawers slide well enough, though they aren’t soft close. I’m sure they’ll slide even better once loaded. I believe the stainless model is slightly heavier 19 gauge steel.
All in with tax and shipping I paid $743, before $150 damage credit. If I was able to use it I’d be very happy, but I’m also putting a lot of weight on how it looks. Seeing as I can’t use it, I’m pretty dissappointed. I’ll end up buying another one and hoping it arrives in better condition and consider this all a very frustrating, very expense lesson learned.

Seems like you could list the damaged one on Craigslist or something. You wouldn’t get nearly what you paid for it, of course, but something is better than nothing.

It will likely end up on Craigslist. At least it’s on casters now, so a little easier to move around.
So far this year I’ve had bad luck buying large items shipped in manufactures cartons from Home Depot. Earlier this year I bought a neat workbench that mounts to the wall with brackets and folds flat out of the way. They had to ship it 3 times to get one to me without a smashed up butcher block. 4ft butcher block top and only 1/2 of styrofoam around it. It was so heavy you could hardly set the box down without smashing a corner of the top. I guess it takes a few coming back for manufacturers to get the idea they need to come up with a better packing system.

I’ve had this exact bench for a couple months and I love it! Recently saw it in-store for $300, but couldnt justify getting another one.
Agree with the above poster that 4 swivel wheels would be the first thing I’d change about it. Great, smooth drawers. perfect top, easy assembly, great platform.

I own a previous generation (w/o the power strip), it makes an excellent “industrial” dresser w/ more storage for clothing & EDC gear; you can’t find as nice as dresser for $300 that be used in the future for tools ;).

It definitely is a statement piece in a master bedroom. I have seen them used kitchens as well, only downside is the drawers are not super “tall” for items to be stacked super tall.
You must line the drawers in foam.

Compared to the Gearwrench (https://toolguyd.com/gearwrench-mobile-work-station-tool-cabinet/), this Husky has fewer drawers, but they’re bigger drawers, a wood top vs. unadorned top, lower overall weight capacity, and no side cabinets.
The Husky gives you better bang for the buck, the Gearwrench gives you more organizational options.

I have that same one and it is awesome. I wish the USB ports were a little higher on the unit since I would likely be using those in conjunction with something on the top, but that’s minor. This thing is constantly marked down bigtime around holidays. It’s a bear to move into the house or up/down stairs, but it’s a great unit.

You can probably unscrew the plate around the power strip, pull it out, and flip it upside down, I was able to do that for the rolling workbench with pegboard.
You might loose a little cord length though.

I own two of the previous models. The shallow depth and no frills drawers…and on sale for $250 each…was a perfect replacement for a 10′ bench constructed from scrap lumber.

Seems like a no brainer to love something like that, going from zero to 100%.
I mean, if they had nothing else in the center of that space, the added storage and workspace / unbox space was no brainer, including adding a second one ( basically two for the price of one )
I have a bunch of utility shelves, a couple folding tables and a scrap lumber workbench on wheels … If somebody offered me one of those no charge, I’d give it 5 stars as well, unless powertool x does not fit in the a drawer or something is mechanically wrong with the unit … And maybe for Chistmas I might have a second one weeks later too while donating the tables.

I don’t know what was in the space prior to this.
More than 9 times out of 10, I give something away or donate it, and I never hear back. That’s okay – no strings attached means no strings attached. For the fewer than 1 out of 10 occasions, there’s something wrong that I can fix, or they’re really happy with the way something worked out.

On a tangent from work I learned that circuit breaks for buildings don’t always work in machines (we had some that tripped due to vibration so switched to some German ones)

I have been looking at tool boxes / workbenches lately and have been intrigued with the Husky as the best “bang for the buck”. The ones that are all black (black anodized handles) are made with a heavier gauge metal and are what I would go with if I end up buying a Husky. This unit would not work for my needs, but I have been looking at the 6′ and 8′ units. I need a large workbenche that is movable for use in the house. I will say that I have been extremely impressed with the stainless 42″ Husky toolbox that I have had for a couple of years. I mounted it in my 2014 Chevy Express work van. It is mounted behind the 2 side access doors and has worked out wonderfully. It has held up to the constant motion of being mounted in a moving vehicle.

I can’t speculate about what we’ll see. I don’t recall what the sale pricing was, and so I could only mention current pricing, which is $400 for my zip.
Regarding the value, I spent years chasing deals on smaller tool storage cabinets, and $400 gets you a lot more storage capacity not. $250 is definitely even better.

I paid $300 or less about a year ago w/o the powerstrip upgrade Stuart describes.
Stuart’s readers are educated to know HD will run sales as we get closer to major holidays, so hold off if you can.
I appreciate Stuart’s (very clear) transparency on his reviewing partnership w/ HD & I do not feel this is a paid placement and I hope the electrical contractor puts the box thru it’s paces and provides honesty feedback to Stuart to post.

I genuinely believed that this was a lot newer, and all I saw was the $400 price, which does seem like a good price to me for what you get. Now I know that it’s a few months older, and that it was more aggressively priced for Father’s Day, and that it will likely be discounted for the winter holidays. That’ll make a great value into an excellent value.
