The Little Numatic Henry Vacuum That Could

Mar 11, 2010 Stuart 11 Comments

The other day Ben Johnson over at Toolmonger posted about the cutest little vacuum I have ever seen. Henry is a 2.4 gallon low-noise vacuum from the British company Numatics, and it is designed for general home cleaning. Apparently Henry is so popular that over 5 million units have sold!

Final Cut Saw Blade Demo Impressions

Mar 10, 2010 Stuart 5 Comments

At a recent Woodworking Show, I had the opportunity to see a Final Cut saw blade in action. We’re currently reviewing Final Cut’s 10″ blade on a miter saw, but it was good to see the same blade used in a table saw. Final Cut’s new circular saw blades were also on-scene, but I didn’t stick […]

Really Neat DIY Cleanroom Box

Mar 10, 2010 Stuart Discuss

There is a really neat (pun not intended) DIY cleanroom box project tutorial over at the I Heart Robotics blog that caught our attention. This step-by-step how-to is very detailed, and shows how to create a small cleanroom-type workspace from some cheap industrial shelving, MDF, a cooling fan, and a ShopVac-type filter.

Panavise 301 Standard Vise

Mar 9, 2010 Stuart 5 Comments

PanaVise vises are great for electronics, hobby work, or any delicate task that requires more finesse or precision than a large bulky iron vise allows. The 301 standard PanaVise is reasonably sized and features a split ball design that allows 180° tilt, 360° turn, and 360° rotate positioning adjustments.

Stanley Jobsite Radio & MP3 Player

Mar 9, 2010 Stuart Discuss

Apparently Stanley has jumped onto the jobsite radio bandwagon as well. Stanley’s version (model VRCR200) features an AC plug as well as ports for a 12V DC battery, two pass-thru outlets that look like they’re GFCI equipped, an AM/FM radio, and it is capable of playing MP3s from a variety of sources. From the looks […]

Craftsman Rewards Program Major Changes

Mar 9, 2010 Stuart 10 Comments

Well, it appears that the Craftsman Rewards Program is undergoing major changes as it is absorbed into the Sears Shop Your Way rewards program. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.

Nationwide Woodworking Shows

Mar 8, 2010 Stuart 3 Comments

The Woodworking Shows is a travelling woodworking show that visits quite a few cities each year. At these shows, you can expect product demonstrations, hands-on learning experiences, and great discounts on new and popular tools. I took the opportunity to visit a recent Woodworking Show at a nearby city, and had a great time there. […]

The new line includes an 11 in 1 multi-tip screwdriver, a Fastback utility knife, a side sliding utility knife, and a rasping jab saw. Milwaukee promises that “additional innovative tools” will follow later in the year.

We’ve been hearing some good feedback about the American Hammer deal we recently posted about, so we figured an update/reminder was in order. During this promotion, American Hammer is offering direct sales at an incredible discount – $25 (shipped!) for any style non-marring hammer under 2 lbs.

Craftsman to Split from Sears as a Spinoff?

Mar 3, 2010 Stuart 10 Comments

There’s definitely something strange going on between Sears and their Craftsman brand, and I have a feeling that it goes way beyond the recent agreement to sell Craftsman tools at Ace Hardware. Just take a look at the cover of Sears’ 2010-2011 tool catalog – Craftsman tools are missing!

Channellock Diagonal Cutters Spotted in Brother Printer Ad

Mar 2, 2010 Stuart 3 Comments

I was doing some online shopping when I came across a flash advertisement for Brother printers that featured what looks to be a pair of Channellock disagonal pliers. Cool. I whipped out a pair of Channellock cutters, and compared the two, finding that the cutters in the ad were most definitely modeled after the Channellocks.

Safety Goggles Review: Radians, Dewalt, Uvex

Mar 1, 2010 Stuart 2 Comments

Some hobbyists and DIYers risk eye injury and occasionally forego wearing safety goggles, with the most common excuse being that they’re uncomfortable to wear. While safety glasses can sometimes be an appropriate alternative, and are certainly better than nothing, there are times when goggles are required. The goggle styles discussed in this mini-review are exceptionally […]
