Sog PowerLock Multi-Tools

Dec 8, 2010 Stuart 2 Comments

I’ve added a new multi-tool to my daily carry rotation – a Sog PowerLock EOD. It’s quite different in design than the Leatherman Wave I typically carry, so it should be interesting to see how the Sog fares in comparison. Most notably, the tool is somewhat larger than anticipated, and its included leather sheath is enormous! […]

Nov 19, 2010 Stuart 4 Comments

Here’s a quick knife and multi-tool holiday gift guide. All but one are personal favorites that are also at the top of Amazon’s knife and multitool bestseller charts, except for the Kershaw, which deserves to be there but isn’t.

Fiskars “Cuts + More” 5-in-1 Multi-Purpose Scissors and Knife

Nov 15, 2010 Stuart 6 Comments

It’s hard to be excited about scissors, but Fiskar’s new “Cuts + More” looks to be incredibly versatile. It features wire, twine, and rope cutting areas, a bottle opener, and a take-apart knife design for easy cleaning and single-blade use. Even the sheath has multiple uses – it features a built-in sharpener and a hook designed to […]

Coptool Utility Knife Showdown

Nov 4, 2010 Stuart 1 Comment

Over at Coptool, there’s a nice roundup of a few newer style utility knives. Jay compared a few knives by Irwin, CH Hanson and Milwaukee, weighing the pros and cons of each. My own favorite utility knife is Stanley’s Quickslide, but I’m always willing to try something new. You can’t ever have too many utility knives! […]

New Pocket-Friendly Sog Micro ToolClip with Pliers

Jul 29, 2010 Stuart 6 Comments

The ToolClip is the newest pocket-sized multi-tool in Sog’s growing lineup. Despite its size, Sog manages to pack a lot of features into the ToolClip – compact plier with wire cutter and spring-return, a knife blade, 2 screwdrivers, a file, and pocket clip. I’ve got to say, it looks pretty darn good. The list price is […]

CRKT’s Tiny Tighe Breaker knives are heavily discounted over at Amazon. Knife Rights Contests NYC DA’s Claims & Tactics

Jun 23, 2010 Stuart Discuss

As expected, Knight Rights released a statement in response to the mass seizure of folding knives from retail stores by the NYC DA’s office. Knife Rights Chairman Doug Ritter said: “the outrageous claims made by [District Attorney] Vance to rationalize his shakedown of honest knife retailers during his press conference were all deliberate misrepresentations or […]

NYC’s War on Knives

Jun 21, 2010 Stuart 4 Comments

The other day I read that sporting goods and home improvement stores were being forced to contribute substantial resources to some type of “fund” because of the types of knives they were selling. Now, it looks like the Manhattan DA is going on a miseducated spree confiscating “illegal” knives at Home Depot and other stores.

Milwaukee’s New Cordless Hand-Powered Tools

Mar 5, 2010 Stuart 11 Comments

Milwaukee just announced that they will be launching a new line of electrical hand tools in April. The new line includes an 11 in 1 multi-tip screwdriver, a Fastback utility knife, a side sliding utility knife, and a rasping jab saw. Milwaukee promises that “additional innovative tools” will follow later in the year.

Kershaw E.T. External Toggle Knife

Nov 16, 2009 Stuart 2 Comments

Kershaw’s E.T. external toggle knife is one sleek looking blade. Relatively lightweight at 3.7 ounces, the E.T. features a 6061-T6 anodized aluminum handle, and 3-1/4″ Sandvik 13C26 stainless steel blade with a bead-blasted finish. These are decent specs, but what really sets this knife apart from ordinary pocket folders is its unique toggle mechanism.

New “Snap-on” Tools, Knives, & Storage Products

Sep 29, 2009 Stuart 3 Comments

As you may already be aware, Snap-on designs and manufactures high quality tools for professional and industrial use. Snap-on also occasionally rebadges high quality tools from other OEMs, sometimes offering them under their Blue Point label. New Snap-on products are exclusively sold via tool trucks and Snap-on’s website. Because of this, we were quite surprised to see a […]

Quick Change Lock-Back Utility Knives

Sep 24, 2009 Stuart 4 Comments

While Stanley’s QuickSlide knife is by far my favorite utility knife, there are several other styles of knives that I occasionally use, such as the pictured lock-back knife. Lock-back utility knives are very quick and easy to open, and are extremely compact for easy stowing.

Sog Micron Keychain Knife

Aug 5, 2009 Stuart 8 Comments

The Sog Micron is a very, very tiny knife. With its 1.5″ blade fully extended, the Micron stretches out to a whopping overall length of 3.44″. The Micron is perfectly sized as a keychain knife, but if size is not an issue, something like the Victorinox Swiss Army Classic pocket knife would be more versatile for […]

Kershaw Onion Leek Pocket Knife

Jun 10, 2009 Stuart 1 Comment

So I received my new Kershaw Onion Leek pocket knife the other day. I needed (wanted) a new pocket knife, and spent quite some time narrowing down the options. It was a tough choice to make, but I ultimately chose the stainless steel Leek since it seemed to best fit my needs. Following is a partial […]

The New Leatherman Freestyle – Preview

Apr 2, 2009 Stuart 5 Comments

Leatherman’s new Freestyle is due to be released in May, and we are very excited. Leatherman’s Freestyle is based off of their Skeletool design, but whereas the Skeletool is a full-size tool, the Freestyle is slightly smaller and lighter, making it a more pocket-friendly tool. Full-size knife? Check. Full-size pliers? Check. “I want one now” […]

The charged up Sog Kilowatt is a quality liner-lock pocket knife for anyone who might need to strip wires or cables at a moment’s notice. The Kilowatt features a 3.4″ blade, a zytel handle, a conventional 12-24ga wire stripper, a spring-loaded wire stripper, and a “hole stripper.” The Kilowatt’s electric-centric aesthetics are well matched to the functions of […]
