Dewalt is coming out with a new 20V Max brushless compact reciprocating saw, model DCS367!
The Dewalt DCS367 follows very closely after the brushed 20V Max model, DCS387, which itself followed a corded design.

Compared to the DCS387, the new DCS367 looks to have the same specs, the same features, and nearly identical but updated ergonomics and geometries. There looks to be a subtle update in the handle design.
There aren’t any bold claims about the new brushless saw’s performance, but I’d guess that the brushless motor contributes to a boost in power and also runtime. Seeing as how the tool is available as part of a compact battery kit, as well as there being bare tool and 5.0Ah battery kit options, perhaps the bigger gains are in runtime efficiency.
What’s also notable is that the new Dewalt DCS367 brushless compact reciprocating saw will be built in the USA, presumably with domestic and foreign components or assemblies.
It’s certainly good to see some more brushless expansion in Dewalt’s 20V Max lineup. I was worried that the new FlexVolt lineup would be Dewalt’s sole answer to competitors’ deeper forays into brushless saws and tool tech.

First Thoughts
Well, the DCS367 brushless compact reciprocating saw might not be very innovative or game-changing, but it’s a brushless rendition of a seemingly well-liked cordless saw design.
As mentioned just above, I’m happy to see more brushless developments in Dewalt’s 20V Max lineup, even though they just recently launched a whole slew of FlexVolt 60V Max tools.
Next up, maybe we’ll see a 20V Max brushless 6-1/2″ circular saw that will complement their full-size FlexVolt saw.

So I’m assuming that no full size 20v recip saw since it would cannibalize the flexvolt saws sales? What I don’t understand is the lack of 4’way blade position , I could be wrong on that one but no moveable shoe seems like a step back on the flexvolt. Those are two features I use often with my 20v.
The 6 1/2″ brushless circ is already on the list , oh and that brings me to the 7 1/4″ why no magnesium shoe? Sorry if I’m complaining but why take a step back before you take one forward. It gets you know where.

The European version has a magnesium shoe, I like the magnesium shoe myself but the aluminum is more durable you drop the aluminum and it bends which you can bend back but drop the magnesium and it breaks so there are positives on both sides I just wish they let us choose

I remember responding, but couldn’t remember where. All I had was a browser tab on my computer that pointed to the Amazon listing.
So far, no official announcement from Dewalt. If the saw is expected to ship this month, we should hear something soon. But we might not, if the new saw isn’t different enough from the brushed model.

The huge problem with this saw design on the brushed version is the amount of vibration transmitted to the user. This saw is much worse than the traditional 20v reciprocating saw. I swear you could mix a can of paint if you were holding it while using this saw.
If this problem was not remedied with the brushless update then this saw is just as uncomfortable to use. I really hope it was addressed.

I suspect it won’t have been but maybe I’m cynical. People who value their teeth don’t use the brushed version; I think the trend will continue.

Agree. I love design of the DCS387, and it’s surprisingly powerful. If the brushless version eliminates the vibration I will buy it in a heartbeat even though mine is perfectly fine. On a side note, has anybody used the Flexvolt blades yet? I use the Diablo carbide blades normally but grabbed the new Flexvolt blades at Farm and Fleet the other day for a project. Didn’t want to wait on Amazon. I must say I was very surprised, these might be my new blades of choice.

I was quite disappointed in the brushed version of this saw. It truly does vibrate worse than any other recip saw I’ve used.

Generally when I use a Sawzall I need it to go flush to the floor, ceiling or wall. Will this design do that ?

Saw the brushless compact sawzall last month on Amazon ($149) by chance and it stopped me from getting the brushed version (thankfully). Will be getting this next year. But I was also waiting for a 20V 18G brand nailer.. and went with the Ryobi because I started loosing faith… I’ll eventually get it though XD
Now If they would come out with a 20V brushless 7-1/4 circular saw and a job site fan (hopefully a METAL blade). Maybe an improved and lighter miter saw…

The DeWalt brushless 18ga brad nailer is on the way (quarter 1 – 2017). There is also a 18ga 1/4″ crown stapler, 15ga, and 18ga flooring nailer in the works for release next year. Working nailers were on display at the STAFDA event a couple of weeks ago.

Dewalt has fallen to far behind I’ve had about 2800 invested in Dewalts 20v system and it was good but after my company though me 2 last notice shut downs I was done with with no lighting solutions from Dewalt and now focusing on purchasing Milwaukee

This is not so much a compact saw as it’s a vertical profile version of a traditional saw. A real compact saw would be lighter and/or balanced for effective one-handed use.

The Milwaukee M12 (2520-20) Hackzall is brushless – but maybe too compact or underpowered for you needs. I don’t believe Milwaukee has introduced a M18 Fuel (brushless) version yet. My take is that the Hackzalls are more for one-handed or confined space applications – rather than being a general purpose reciprocating saw.
We had a batch of the older M12 hackzalls that the plumbing crews really liked for working under sinks – behind commodes etc. for cutting plastic pipe and tubing.

OK sports fans, I’m a DeWalt devotee but, I don’t understand the seemingly slow roll out of new brushless tools.
I am equally puzzled as to why they continue production of the 18 volt tool line now that you can use their adapter and get the benefit of their 20 volt lithium ion battery pack with existing 18 volt tools…ahhhh, to each his own I imagine. It might help if they made the adapter available as a lone item vs. as a part of a kit.

You can get the 18v-20v adapter as a stand alone item on Amazon for $39 or a set of two for $58.

$159 for a tool with stickers on it. Other manufacturers have their branding molded and painted on the tool and dewalt continues to use stickers. And im not just talking about the USA stickers.

I couldn’t care less how the brand name is on the tool. I dont buy a brand of tool to show off or brag about the brand. I buy a brand for the reputation of tool quality and longevity. I don’t care how unrecognizable the brand of the tool is so long as it works every time.

Look at the top of the tool, or the back of your premium drill or impact you can’t really deny the stickers when it’s right there. I didn’t intend to bash dewalt in fact I prefer their drills over others, but you pay good money for a good tool with cheap stickers on it.
