Over at Home Depot, there is a new Husky pliers set mixed into the holiday displays. The new set comes with 6-inch and 8-inch pistol grip pliers.
There are a bunch of angled pliers on the market such as the EZ Red Kiwi pliers, Grip-on ErgoGrip pliers, NWS Ergo pliers, and one or two of the new NWS-made Irwin pliers. Wiha’s Inomic pliers (~$35 each via Amazon) also come to mind.

Husky’s new pliers look reasonably functional, and I like how the inner and outer handles are shaped differently to better fit users’ hands. The pliers are priced at around $10 for the set, which seems pretty good.
These pliers might be inexpensive, but they don’t necessarily look cheap.

My toolbox is over-flowing, and so I didn’t buy the Husky pistol grip pliers set on the spot. The more I think about these pliers, the more appealing they seem. I will continue to fight the temptation, but if I can think of a couple more potential applications for these angles pliers, at least one pair will come home with me after my next visit to Home Depot.

I could instantly think of many tasks these would be great for. Of all the hand tools where possibly cheaper versions would be acceptable for, needle nose pliers are one.
Even good quality ones are not designed for high-torque applications, and the husky stuff, while not Knipex quality, is usually at least as good as most mid grade pliers.
I’ll probably pick these up if I see them. Especially handy for tav/motorcycle work where you have tight clearances….

I picked these up in the gift area at Depot this weekend. Just prior to my trip there I was pulling thousands of staples out of my staircase with some standard needle nose pliers. If you buy these for no other reason, buy them to pull staples out of stairs! I’d say the quality is excellent for the $10 2/pack. They don’t have the cool molded handles like some of the other husky pliers, but it works for these keeping them slim for better access into corners.

Nice find – they are on my to-buy list for stocking stuffers for the kids – probably not quite up to the quality of the NWS ergo pliers you posted about in 2011 – but great stocking stuffers nonetheless.

I’ve been looking into buying some pistol grip needle nose, kept holding off cause of the price of the versions I was looking at. At $10 these seem like a good choice. I trust husky enough for something like this.

I keep seeing the kiwi pliers and wanting a set, but looking in my wallet realize it won’t happen any time soon. This may just be the solution.

I bought a set of EZ-Red (KWP2) Kiwi pliers in 2012. My first use – wrestling with old rusted cotter pins on garage door hardware proved a disappointment. The pliers were not strong enough for this purpose – but I guess they were good enough for lighter-duty work. I picked up a set of these (Husky Pliers) today as a gift. I did not take them out of the packaging – but they look decent enough and appear more robust than the Kiwi’s. BTW – from the UPC (848949010663) the OEM would appear to be JIANGSU JINLU GROUP in China.

I think I’ll pick up a pair for the wife. The price is right and the quality is hard to go wrong with for this kind of tool, as most other comments have mentioned. Plus the lifetime guarantee doesn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, I don’t. But, there are some alternates included in this post, such as the EZ Red Kiwi pliers that might prove to be suitable alternatives.
