Milwaukee already makes an M18 cordless miter saw. Whaaaaat? Yep, we posted about it in our 2014 EU Milwaukee new tool preview post.
So why haven’t we seen it here? Simple – it was designed with a 8.5″ blade and unique handle system, for the European market. it wasn’t really designed for USA or North American users.
So when will we see a Milwaukee cordless miter saw? The answer: soon.

Oh look, isn’t that the new Milwaukee M18 High Demand 9.0Ah Li-ion battery pack? That makes sense.
This looks like a whole different tool, designed from the ground up. And it also looks to have a 10-inch blade. It makes more sense that Milwaukee would come out with a 10″ cordless miter saw, rather than 12″, which would be larger, heavier, more power-hungry, and more expensive.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m very excited at the possibility of a Milwaukee M18 Fuel cordless miter saw. That must be one beefy brushless motor – who knows what else might be coming down the line?
After Milwaukee brings this or another M18 Fuel brushless cordless miter saw to the USA market, what other corded tools do you think they’ll make cordless next?
Here’s another question:
Which would you choose? Dewalt’s 20V Max 7-1/4″ cordless miter saw, or a Milwaukee M18 Fuel 10″ cordless miter saw?
On one hand, the Dewalt is bound to be smaller, lighter, and less expensive. But the Milwaukee is presumably going to be more powerful and more capable. A 10-inch blade size would mean greater cutting capacity, and also wider blade compatibility.
I tend to use a range of different blades for different purposes, some of which aren’t readily available in 7-1/4″ sizing, such as the non-ferrous aluminum and plastic-cutting blades that I like. But there’s also benefit in having a smaller saw that’s more easily portable.
As a reminder, all we’ve got so far is a post on the ToolGuyd forum discussing what some Milwaukee reps are telling customers, and some photos of a Milwaukee M18 Fuel cordless miter saw that surfaced on Instagram.
As soon as we learn more, we’ll share! And I hope you guys will do the same!

I just don’t use miter saws enough to justify, so I’ll stay with the cordless one I have: Ryobi 18V. But I’ve modified it to work with TWO 18V Makita batteries (in 18V mode, not 36V series…) which does wonder to keep the cutting power decent. That way in situations where normally it would start to bind up, losing power as the battery voltage collapses, the second battery in parallel gives it the voltage support it needs.
All that said, something like this is exactly where a 36V/X2 type configuration makes sense. Weight isn’t really the issue, so why not slap two batteries and a 36V motor on it?

Don’t forget, this new Milwaukee saw is DUAL BEVEL. That alone places this saw atop the DeWalt 20v version. I own the 20v version and absolutely love it. I’ve had for almost a year now and it has been fantastic. I do wish it was dual bevel though.
Not even the new Makita 36v (18v x 2) cordless miter saw is dual bevel. In reality, the new Milwaukee 10″ cordless sliding miter saw with dual bevel is in a class of its own right now.

Also interesting – it looks like Milwaukee designed the rails slide into the base, rather than the upper portion of the tool sliding on the rails.

Nothing will beat the dewalt LED system. Milwaukee should simulate that particular feature for a winning saw.

The slide rail system looks to be straight from their corded version which slides into the base. I would say sign me up but im very afraid to think of what this might cost, If a bare tool cordless nailer is $350 then a 10″ dual bevel slider could be in the $500-600 range. If thats the case I’ll just spend the same money on their 12″ corded slider. This cordless miter saw could be an awesome addition to my already large set of Milwaukee tools. Would sure look good on top of my new 60″ Milwaukee mobile tool center.

I love the cordless miter saw. I couldn’t wait for it to maybe come out here. I ended up buying the European version with the 216mm blade from Australia and paid to have it shipped over. Wasn’t too outrageous. Laser projects down to both sides of the blade. Also has a switched led light if you are working in dim areas. Extremely well built and very mobile. Saves me a ton of time and fits in my tool slide in the back of my truck. Hopefully this rumored version is similar in size and capability. I use it to mostly cut aluminum. Very precise and batteries lasts a long time.

So stupid question, why do they keep referring to these as just a “Miter Saw” instead of all it can do and properly calling it a “Sliding Compound Miter Saw”. Even the “Dewalt’s 20V Max 7-1/4″ cordless miter saw” is referred to as just a “Miter Saw”. I had to take a double check to see and realize that the Milwaukee is a slider too (not just compound) which really is a wonderful feature. Surely they should be talking up all the features and use the correct terminology no?
Back to the subject, it looks like the Dewalt’s cross cut is only 8 inches what is the cross cut for the M18 Fuel 12″ Miter saw to compare?

Going to be much more expensive then the dewalt, heavier and a little bulky to be portable. I think dewalt nailed thier saw, this is cool and all but a little too big/expensive for most.

For me, when writing a post, I consider that since Dewalt only offers 1 cordless miter saw, and the same will be true about Milwaukee, it’s easier to simply say something like “Milwaukee cordless miter saw,” than “Milwaukee sliding compound miter saw,” or “Milwaukee single/double bevel sliding compound miter saw.”
If there were multiple models, I would differentiate a lot more.

You can easily crosscut a 2×10 on the DeWalt just by lifting the face of the board closest to you up off of the table 20*-30*. I have done it many times.

It’s the vertical capacity that makes the biggest difference. Large crown molding is rather tricky on that DeWalt. On a double-bevel sliding compound miter saw with at least a 10″ blade it’s a breeze. Or so I’m told. I’ve never done crown molding, but I recently researched it for my brother-in-law when he needed a new saw. Too bad this wasn’t already available. He had to go cordless.

Im excited for this. Own a bunch of M18 tools and a few dewalt corded tools (miter saw being one of them). Ill definitely look into this and try to get rid of the dewalt corded one. For me portability and not having to be tied to an outlet is exactly what I need.
If its a compound sliding miter as John says, then that’s perfect. Current dewalt is the same.

I just ordered the Ryobi 18v miter saw. I think this will be a great tool for pulling out to do some trim work when I don’t feel like pulling out my big dewalt rig. I like how Milwaukee is following Ryobi and bringing out lots of cutting edge tech, pushing innovation.
